All your investments will be held in a single account so you can see your total portfolio in one viewing.
If you have all your funds within a funds supermarket, you will cut down your paperwork, deal quickly and easily in making any fund changes and have access to your portfolio online. In one transaction summary you will see all the activity in your account, including buys, sells, switches, dividend payments, and income reinvestment.
They remove the barriers that so often deter investors from moving out of poorly performing investments. You can change from fund to fund quickly and easily at any time for a flat rate of 0.25%, without losing the tax-efficient status should the fund be held within an ISA.
This should greatly improve your ability to manage your entire portfolio at very low cost.
You can easily move existing ISAs or direct fund investments into these accounts and avoid any of the standard initial fund charges, the bid/offer spread, and any potential investment risk from being out of the market for prolonged periods while the transfer takes place.
This is the quicker of the two options but is only available for holdings within an ISA.
The present holding is sold and the monies sent to the supermarket where they are invested in the funds you have chosen.
The proceeds of sale will be "out of the market" until the new funds are bought.
This can take up to 28 days. If the price of the new funds rises during that time you can be disadvantaged.
If you want to move your existing unit holdings into a fund supermarket and avoid the need to sell and buy back the units then check to see if this option is available to you.
This removes the "out of the market" risk mentioned above. When re-registering stock to a supermarket the details on the stock certificate held by your fund manager will be altered to reflect that you now hold the funds through the supermarket.
In most cases, it takes up to six weeks to complete but may take longer.
(NB. During this period it is not possible to sell the holding being transferred.)
To switch funds you will need to have your funds within a funds supermarket.
